What is Essential Conversations for Developing Others?

The Advanced Coaching Clinic - Essential Conversations for Developing Others builds off of the highly successful Coaching Clinic emphasizing a leader-coach's role in developing others focusing on:

  • optimizing an individual's performance; and
  • identifying and building new skills and capabilities.

 

It focuses on the application and integration of coaching inside a developmental discussion (one that may be sensitive and/or challenging) and challenges participants to raise their standards for constructive, collaborative conversations. Day One provides participants the opportunity to learn and enhance their "technical" coaching skills. On Day Two participants will learn how to apply those skills when in developmental discussions.

 

Advanced Coaching Skills

This exciting program renews and reinforces the core concepts introduced in The Coaching Clinic® and goes deeper. The program focuses on the three key coaching skills used when in developmental conversations: (1) Language of Coaching, (2) Contextual Listening, and (3) Gap Bridging.

 

Styles of Learning & Mentoring

It also introduces a new tool called the Styles of Learning and Mentoring Inventory (SLMI) enabling the participants to identify and become familiar with their own style of learning as well as gain an understanding of the importance of knowing how others learn. The learning and mentoring section features fun and engaging activities and wraps-up with a coaching practice to reinforce the styles.

 

Courageous Conversations

The pivotal portion of the entire program is the Courageous Conversations component focused on building the confidence and competence in conducting developmental conversations that may be sensitive or challenging. Participants will experience how to stay grounded in their "intention"; and "trust" in their perspective; be willing to share what they observe in a way that is balanced, respectful and non-confrontational; make requests; and at all times remain curious.

 

What to Expect

The Essential Conversations for Developing Others program design creates a rich learning environment to develop advanced coaching skills and build greater levels of expertise. It incorporates group work, practice, case studies and audio and video clips. Fifteen different audio clips provide examples and demonstrations of the key elements and concepts of the program. Participants will be able to relate to these audio clips of real-life scenarios highlighting the everyday issues and challenges that people face in our organizations today.

Essential Conversations for Developing Others is intended for leaders, managers and supervisors who have already participated in The Coaching Clinic and now want to extend their capability, especially in the area of people development.
